Dave Thomas is a charter member of the Canadian-Cuban Friendship Association (CCFA) of Niagara has just released his book, Cuba on 2 Wheels, the stories of his motorcycle adventures in Cuba during the Special Period.
Many years ago through shortwave radio, Dave began to understand the world might not be as it was presented. He had a yearning to confirm. This led to three tourist-type trips to Cuba, then several educational tours organized between Canadian and Cuba trade unions, Worker to Worker.
His findings on those intensive tours were unconvincing to friends and family at home; as in, “They only show you what they want you to see.” He thought, once he retired, if he went and lived in Cuba with his motorcycle as transportation, with a year and six months of experience and 33,000 km on the Cuban roads he could defend the island against the most absurd opinions.
He took daily notes of his travels, his experiences, and the lives shared with the many new Cuban friends.
He began to conceive an idea of building solidarity with Cuba by operating motorcycle tours. The tours never materialized but his book, Cuba on 2 Wheels brings his adventures to the adventurous and motorcyclists alike.
His heart-felt conclusion, A Better World is Possible……And it exists in Revolutionary Cuba!
