CNC Statement: UN General Assembly Vote to Condemn the U.S. Blockade Against Cuba

For the 32nd time, the United Nations General Assembly has overwhelming voted in support of Cuba and in opposition to Washington’s brutal economic war against the heroic island nation.

By a vote of 187 to 2 (with one abstention) the international community adopted the resolution, “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.”

This decisive vote stands as a resounding endorsement of global solidarity and justice, underscoring the world community’s unambiguous rejection and repudiation of Washington’s ongoing economic siege of Cuba; a siege that has persisted for over six decades, impacting the Cuban people in profound ways. The economic blockade – whose objective is to stifle Cuba’s economic and social development – denies the people access to essential resources, and aims to negate their right to sovereignty, self-determination and independence.

In reaffirming their opposition to these sanctions, United Nations member states have sent a powerful message of unity against unilateral coercive measures, reinforcing the international commitment to principles of human rights, non-interference, and economic equality. This is not only a victory for Cuba but for all nations that value freedom and justice, and it reminds us that the path forward is through cooperation, mutual respect, and the dismantling of policies rooted in inequity and aggression.

End the U.S. blockade of Cuba! ¡Abajo el bloqueo imperialista contra Cuba!
