Commemorating Che Guevara:
Songs of Resistance by Art Farquharson and the Screening of "Kordavision - the Man Who Shot Che Guevara"

BCGEU Hall, 2994 Douglas
Admission by donation
Sponsored by the Goods for Cuba Campaign

Kordavision is a documentary on a journey into the world of renowned Cuban photographer, Alberto Diaz "Korda," revealing the powerful images captured by Korda, reflecting Cuba's soul. No other image in history has been reproduced as many times as Alberto Korda’s portrait of Che Guevara. That shot, taken at a memorial service on March 5, 1960, became the international symbol of protest and rebellion, yet the photographer never profited from the image he gave to the world. As Fidel Castro’s personal photographer, the man born as Alberto Diaz Gutierrez captured more than 12,000 images of the Cuban Revolution as it unfolded. In spite of his fame, Alberto Korda remains one of the most humble artisans the world has ever known.

Canadian Launch of Fidel Castro's Book "Strategic Victory" Print E-mail

The new historical book Strategic Victory ("La Victoria Estratégica") by the leader of the Cuban Revolution  Fidel Castro had its Canadian launch on October 7 at the Steelworkers Hall in Toronto. The launch is part of the agenda of the Cuban delegation attending the 2010 Congress of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) from October 6-9, economics professor Dr. Ramon Sanchez Noda told Prensa Latina. The book was launched in Cuba on August 20.

The book was presented by outstanding Cuban intellectuals Miguel Barnet and Aurelio Alfonso who explained the content and historical value of the book. The launch was the highlight of an event organized by the Canadian Cuban Friendship Association-Toronto which included a speech by Elizabeth Palmeiro, the wife of Ramon Labañino, one of the five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters unjustly held in U.S. prisons.

Dr. Sanchez Noda is leading a delegation of about 78 Cuban social scientists taking part in the four-day academic congress, the largest of its kind, attended by about 5,000 experts on Latin American and Caribbean issues.

The wide-ranging program of the congress includes some 1,000 presentations on political, religious, cultural, historical and social issues, with the U.S. aggression against Cuba and the impact of illegal immigration and violence on Mexico at the centre of panel discussions in several sessions.
