Increasing aggression towards Cuba: No one should remain silent!

Confronted with increasing interference from the US government in Cuba’s internal affairs, Nova Scotia Cuba Association cannot remain silent. Provocations, planned and financed by the US, aimed at subverting Cuba’s constitutional order and creating a pretext for increasing economic war, and possibly military intervention, are criminal -towards Cuba, its people and peoples of the world!

NSCUBA denounces this campaign, the 62-year old blockade and increasing sanctions against Cuba and the Cuban people as cruel, unusual punishment that violates International Law. Following the United Nations Charter and numerous covenants and declarations of International Law, we affirm the right of all peoples and countries to determine their future, their political, economic and social system, and to do so free of external interference. We proclaim Cuba's right to unite and fight against any such interference.

Provocations are planned and not by chance for the date Cuba reopens to the world. Cuba facing increasing sanctions, a world pandemic, and the economic challenges resulting from both, does it with determination, capacity and immense dedication. Making huge efforts, Cuba is bringing the corona virus under control through mass inoculation with its own developed vaccines -Soberana (2 and Plus) and Abdala. These internationally recognized vaccines are living proof of Cuban ingenuity and creativity. But Cuba success, seems to further provoke the US war against Havana, a growing hatred apparently connected to Cuban generosity in making its vaccines available to the world.

In Canada, mainstream media engages in deception promoting falsehoods about Cuba. Pretending interest in Cuban human rights, rather than exposing the US economic war and sanctions against Cuba, it seems to favour the rupture of Cuba-Canada relations. It supports views that Canadians reject in practice: visiting Cuba, developing friendships with Cubans, signing petitions against the US blockade, asking the Canadian government to take meaningful actions against it and for Cuba. Ottawa appears to disregard our concerns, willing maybe to follow Washington.

The annual United Nations Human Development Report (HDR) confirms the advances and progress of Cuba, who ranks 1st in terms of the relationship between economic means and capacity for human development outperforming the much richer countries of the so-called "developed world." Internationalist Cuba selflessly dispatched tens of thousands of medical personnel to dozens of countries across the world to fight disease, whether Ebola or Covid-19. This is the Cuba that Cubans defend. It is not free of flaws and shortcomings but whatever the errors and misssteps, it is up to the people of Cuba, and to them alone, to determine their country’s political, social and economic arrangements.

Nova Scotia Cuba stands in solidarity with Cuba in support of the Cuban people and their Revolution as they defend themselves against any and all acts of aggression launched by the U.S. government. We call on the Canadian government to do the same and to live up to its obligations under International Law, and to its responsibilities as a member of the international community, denouncing and condemning the continuing US aggression against Cuba. In Canada, we stand for the building of genuine friendship with Cuba, relations based on mutual respect, equality, and recognition of Cuba’s right to self-determination and sovereignty. ¡Viva Cuba!

Creciente agresividad hacia Cuba: ¡Nadie debe callar!

Frente a la creciente interferencia del gobierno de Estados Unidos en los asuntos internos de Cuba, la Asociación Nova Scotia-Cuba (NSCUBA) no puede permanecer en silencio. Las provocaciones, planificadas y financiadas por Estados Unidos, destinadas a subvertir el orden constitucional de Cuba y crear un pretexto para una Guerra económica creciente, y posiblemente una intervención militar, son criminales para Cuba, su gente y los pueblos del mundo.

NSCUBA denuncia esta campaña, el bloqueo de 62 años y el aumento de las sanciones contra Cuba y el pueblo cubano, como un castigo cruel e inusual que viola el Derecho Internacional. Siguiendo la Carta de las Naciones Unidas y numerosos pactos y declaraciones del Derecho Internacional, afirmamos el derecho de todos los pueblos y países a determinar su futuro, su Sistema político, económico y social, y a hacerlo libres de injerencias externas. Proclamamos el derecho de Cuba a unirse y luchar contra cualquier injerencia de este tipo.

Las provocaciones están planeadas, no casualmente, para la fecha en que Cuba se reabre al mundo. Cuba enfrenta crecientes sanciones, una pandemia mundial y los desafíos económicos resultantes de ambas. Lo hace con determinación, capacidad e inmensa dedicación. Con grandes esfuerzos, Cuba está controlando el virus corona mediante la inoculación masiva con vacunas desarrolladas por Cuba misma: Soberana (2 y Plus) y Abdala. Estas vacunas, reconocidas internacionalmente, son prueba viviente del ingenio y creatividad cubana. Pero el éxito de Cuba parece provocar aún más la guerra de Estados Unidos contra La Habana, un odio creciente relacionado, aparentemente, con la generosidad cubana al poner sus vacunas a disposición del mundo.

En Canadá, los principales medios de comunicación se dedican al engaño promoviendo falsedades sobre Cuba. Fingen interés en los derechos humanos cubanos y en vez de denunciar la guerra económica y sanciones que Estados Unidos impone a Cuba, parecen favorecer la ruptura de las relaciones Cuba-Canadá. Apoyan perspectivas que los canadienses rechazan en la práctica: visitando la isla y entablando relaciones de amistad con los cubanos, firmando peticiones contra el bloqueo estadounidense, pidiendo al gobierno canadiense que tome medidas significativas en su contra y en favor de Cuba.Ottawa parece ignorar nuestras preocupaciones y estar, quizás, dispuesta a seguir a Washington.

El Informe anual de Desarrollo Humano de las Naciones Unidas (IDH) confirma el progreso y los avances de Cuba, que ocupa el primer lugar en términos de relación entre medios económicos y capacidad de desarrollo humano, superando a los países más ricos del llamado "mundo desarrollado". Cuba internacionalista envoi desinteresadamente decenas de miles de personal médico a decenas de países en todo el mundo para combatir enfermedades, sea Ébola o Covid-19. Esta es la Cuba que defienden los cubanos. No está libre de fallas y deficiencias, pero cualesquiera que sean los errores o equívocos, corresponde al pueblo de Cuba, y solo a él, determinar los arreglos políticos, sociales yeconómicos de su país.

NSCUBA se solidariza con Cuba en apoyo del pueblo cubano y su Revolución mientras se defienden de todos y cada uno de los actos de agresión lanzados por el gobierno de Estados Unidos. Hacemos un llamado al gobierno canadiense para que se pronuncie y cumpla con sus obligaciones en virtud del derecho internacional y sus responsabilidades como miembro de la comunidad internacional, denunciando y condenando la continua agresión de Estados Unidos contra Cuba. En Canadá, defendemos la amistad genuina con Cuba, relaciones basadas en el respeto mutuo, la igualdad y el reconocimiento del derecho de Cuba a la libre determinación y soberanía. ¡Viva Cuba!
