November 1st Actions Against US Economic Blockade of Cuba Print E-mail

On November 1st international protest actions will he held to coincide with the annual United Nations vote against the U.S. economic blockade of Cuba. We encourage member groups of the Canadian Network On Cuba to participate in this day of international protest by organizing actions in their various communities. At present, protests are being organized in Halifax, Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto and Vancouver.

In the U.S. protests will take place in Atlanta, Chicago, Hartford, New York City and Washington, DC. The New York City protest will be a regional action with Cuba solidarity activists from Newark and Northern New Jersey as well as Albany and upstate New York, which will include attending the proceedings and the actual vote during the U.N. General Assembly.

Other places where November 1st actions are planned include the Bay Area (California), Boston, Los Angeles and Twin Cities (Minnesota). Activists from the Friends of Cuba in South Africa are planning protests in Johannesburg and other South African cities.

Recent actions by the Trump regime underscore the importance of the November 1st protests. Washington has expelled 15 Cuban diplomats from the Embassy of Cuba in Washington, DC, and ended all visa processing for Cubans visiting or invited to the United States. As the Trump regime endeavours to manufacture a diplomatic crisis, Cuba has denied in the strongest terms any responsibility for the reported health issues concerning some US and Canadian diplomats.

For 25 consecutive years the UN has rejected U.S. attempts to impose its imperial will on Cuba through coercion by the unilateral commercial, economic and financial blockade of Cuba. This not only demonstrates the unflinching opposition of the world to the criminal U.S. policy, but also the depth of global support and respect for Cuba.

The struggle continues to finally bring an end to the U.S. economic war against Cuba, which is a flagrant violation of international law, constituting the principal obstacle to the island's social and economic development. In this struggle, the nations and the peoples of the world, representing the immense majority of humanity, have declared in one voice that they stand with Cuba.

On November 1st, let us all join that resounding world chorus!

Down with the U.S. Blockade of Cuba!
Return Guantanamo to Cuba!
