Ottawa, December 14, 2015. The Senate of Canada dedicated a session last week to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Canada, to which Ambassador of Cuba in that country, Julio Garmendia Peña was invited.

70th AnniversarySenator Pierrette Ringuette, co-chair of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Canada-Cuba, who was in charge of the keynote address, welcomed the special relationship between the people and the government of Canada and the people and government of the Republic of Cuba, while highlighted the achievements of Cuba throughout these years, "despite the (US) blockade and have limited natural resources." Among the components that characterize the relationship between the two countries Senator stressed trade relations, which, in her opinion could increase in the coming years.

In the Gallery of Visitors of the Senate were also present the first secretary of the Embassy of Cuba, Miraly González, the Honourable Marcel Prud'homme, former Senator and founder of the Parliamentary Group and Andre Ouellet former minister of Foreign Affairs.
