Cuban President Meets with U.S. Senators

Havana, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina)  Cuban President Raul Castro met in this capital with two U.S. senators and exchanged viewpoints on issues of interest for the two countries.

Patrick Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont and chairman of the Senate's Judiciary Committee, and Richard Shelby, a Republican from Alabama and minority leader of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, are visiting Cuba, as part of a delegation of Senators and Representatives of the U.S. Congress.

According to an official press release published in Havana, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez attended the meeting on Thursday.

Single Party System Guarantees Sovereignty, Raul Castro Says

Havana, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) President Raul Castro stressed at the closing session of the 1st National Conference of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) on Sunday that a single-party system in Cuba guarantees the national sovereignty and social justice conquered by the 1959 Revolution.

"Renouncing the single-party system would just be as legalizing the party or the parties of imperialism in our homeland and sacrificing the strategic weapon of unity among Cubans."

Venezuela: A Model of Role of Revolutionary Military, Fidel Castro Says

Havana, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela is an outstanding example of the theoretical and practical role that revolutionary military people can play in fighting for the independence of our peoples, underlined the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

When recalling that they follow the tradition of those that fought along with Liberator Simon Bolivar two centuries ago, Fidel Castro affirmed, in his latest reflection, that is unfair to criticize President Hugo Chavez for investing resources in armaments.
