Donation breaks the U.S. blockade against Cuba in Covid-19 times |

Havana, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Wednesday noted that a recent donation of medical supplies to the country counteracts the effects of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.
On his Twitter account, the president expressed gratitude for the shipment arranged by the Juan Gualberto Gomez Association of Cubans in Toronto, Canada, to contribute to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
'The solidarity of the Juan Gualberto Gomez Association of Cubans Residents in Toronto and of Canadian individuals and institutions united in the Yes for Cuba project is very welcomed. It is of great value your help to fight the #blockade and #COVID19. Thank you. #CubaAlive,' he tweeted.
Since September 3, with a small donation, the Yes for Cuba Container project began, aimed at delivering medical supplies to strengthen the health sector, in coordination with the import and export MEDICuba company.
The cargo included ventilators for artificial respiration, anesthesia machines, hospital beds, wheelchairs, orthopedic material, gynecology, urology, pediatrics, among others.
Association President Julio Fonseca told Prensa Latina that they have provisions for a second shipment.
Rafael Ernesto Cañete, MEDICuba's chief operating specialist, pointed out that this action adds to the unconditional support from Cubans living in various regions in the current context.
According to Cuban authorities, from April 2019 to March 2020, the US blockade caused losses of more than 160 million dollars in the health sector.
In almost six decades of such a policy, losses amount to 3.7 billion dollars.
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez stated that the US Government's blockade against Cuba thwarted the acquisition of medical and pharmaceutical supplies and technologies needed to fight Covid-19. |
