Call to 6th Biennial Convention Canadian Network on Cuba Print E-mail

To all CNC Member Organizations:

The 6th Convention of the Canadian Network on Cuba will take place on May 18, 19 and 20, 2013 (Victoria Day Weekend) at Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street West, Toronto, Ontario.

The convention dates were moved from the usual Labour Day Weekend to accommodate the Tribunal & Assembly for the Cuban Five held in September 2012 with participants from Cuba, United States, Great Britain, Québec and across Canada.  As a result of this very successful and inspiring event, plans for intensifying and broadening the campaign for justice for the Cuban Five are continuing.

The convention will review of the work since our last convention including the Cuba for Haiti campaign and tour of Cuban Doctor Jorge Tomas Balseiro and Sandra Ramirez from ICAP, the Che Guevara Brigades, Tribunal/Assembly on the Cuban Five, work with Members of Parliament, CNC website, report on CNC finances, discussions on future plans and campaigns and local reports from Member organizations.

We will also review developments inside Cuba, and analyse the state of Canada’s foreign policy toward Cuba under the majority Conservative government in Ottawa.

We will have invited guests from the Cuban Embassy, ICAP, and from sister organizations, La Table de Concertation de Solidarité Québec-Cuba and the U.S. National Network on Cuba (NNOC).

Each paid up member organization is entitled to send two delegates. Membership fees for the year 2013 are $150 per organization (half that for Associate Members).

As in past conventions, to facilitate attendance the CNC will provide travel funding for one delegate for each member organization whose fees are paid up to date, based on the most economical fare available (early booking).  Groups are asked to select their delegates early in order to take advantage of discount airfares etc.

We will endeavour to find billets in homes of local supporters, wherever possible,  for those requesting them in advance.
