Manitoba-Cuba Solidarity Committee
The Manitoba-Cuba Solidarity Committee was founded in 1991 as an expression of the support of the people of Manitoba for the right of Cuba to independence and sovereignty, and the right of the Cuban people to choose their own economic, political and social system. Since then, our committee has carried out continuous work in solidarity with Cuba.
The aim of the Manitoba-Cuba Solidarity Committee is to promote friendship and solidarity between the people of Canada and the people of Cuba. It does so in a number of ways, including:
- coordinating actions to condemn and reject the unjust and inhumane U.S. blockade against Cuba, which has continued for more than four decades;
- celebrating Cuba's most important historical dates by organizing cultural, social and political events;
- educating Canadians about the realities of Cuba and exposing the disinformation campaigns inspired by the U.S. government and certain Cuban émigrés;
- encouraging Canadians to visit Cuba and get to know the Cuban experience first-hand;
- supporting various solidarity activities, such as volunteer work brigades, collection of material donations and other measures aimed at assisting Cuba materially and weakening the U.S. blockade;
- sponsoring tours by Cuban cultural groups, performers, artists and intellectuals.
