SECRETARY OF STATE PARADIS TO VISIT CUBA
Denis Paradis, Secretary of State for Latin America, Africa and La
Francophonie, today announced that he will be leading a delegation of
parliamentarians and business representatives to Cuba from November 2 to 6,
2002. While in Cuba, Secretary of State Paradis will meet with senior
government officials, promote trade and participate in a number of cultural
events.
"Canada and Cuba have maintained an uninterrupted bilateral relationship
since 1945, and we consider Cuba to be an important partner in bilateral
trade, investment and development cooperation," said Mr. Paradis.
The Secretary of State will attend the 20th Havana International Trade Fair
(FIHAV), the largest trade fair in Cuba and the Caribbean, where he will
participate in the official opening of the Canadian pavilion. More than 65
Canadian companies and two provinces (Quebec and Manitoba) will be
represented at the fair this year. Canadian companies have been present at
FIHAV every year since its inception. FIHAV organizers have identified
November 5 as "Canada Day" to highlight the involvement of Canadian
companies at the event.
On November 4, Mr. Paradis will also inaugurate a cultural exhibit
celebrating Pierre Trudeau at the International Press Center in Havana, and
on November 5, he will meet with students at the University of Havana.
